the (mostly) inside thoughts of an overthinker

boxing day

merry christmas, to those who celebrate! merry day after christmas, to the state of delaware!

apparently delaware decided last week that they would be observing the day after christmas this year as a holiday, ruining at least one person’s plan to file merger documents with the state on the 26th (not me, but thoughts and prayers). i wonder how they came to that decision - i haven’t looked into it, but it’s probably a decision that goes across the entire state’s government and not just their secretary/document processing folks. what if there was some state official who was counting how many days they’d have to spend at their in-laws’ house, debating whether it was worse to be there or in wilmington on the 26th. or maybe some type-a vacation planner knew about this on january 1, 2024 after projecting their rollover pto for the next two years, but waited with bated breath for someone else in their office to bring it up: “hey guys, christmas is on a thursday in 2025…so there’s just one day before the weekend…anyone have fun plans then?” or maybe this is something that happens by default every time christmas lands on a thursday?

(actually i just googled it, and i definitely should’ve known that the explanation for the arbitrary holiday designation is exactly what you’d expect for america in 2025: trump declared it a holiday via federal executive order on december 18th, and so it was)
