moon
yay first post of 2026!!!
and today’s the first full moon of the year - i haven’t gotten out to see it yet (today was a post-holiday cleaning day), but i was just thinking that we should bring back moon viewing. over the break i watched this chinese period drama, which is normally not my genre at all. it’s been well over a decade since i’ve last watched a chinese drama from start to finish, but i guess the stars aligned for this one. there’s one scene where a girl gets out of bed in the middle of the night and her servants ask her where she’s going, and she responds (roughly translated): to go admire the moon. (she actually goes to spy on her sister-in-law’s husband, who is blackmailing her other sister-in-law to steal the family inheritance from her husband - lots of depraved extended family in this show.)
anyways, i’d like to bring back admiring the moon as an activity. bring back viewing platforms where you can sit on the edge and swing your feet, and look up. until i moved into the city, i didn’t realize that having a vantage point of the moon is kind of a suburban luxury? she’s always there and rarely obscured by anything other than trees or clouds. i guess she’s always there in the city too, even if you have to dodge around buildings to make eye contact. i think i’m already a pretty big fan of the moon, but this year i’m going to try and see her even more often.
