snow day
snow then:
- ice cubes in toilet to conjure a snow day
- wet hair freezing while waiting for the bus
- clumps of snow in my sleeves and socks
- rumors of a kid who got their tongue stuck on the flagpole
- sledding down my backyard (incredible incline and viewpoint from the kitchen)
snow now:
- 24yo boys from california freaking out about their first time seeing snow
- styrofoam pellets instead of crystal salt
- butt prints on the bus stop seats, framed by a light dusting of salty sand blown in from the street
- children shrieking in the streets, ruining the special snowy quiet
venn diagram of now and then:
- testing the asphalt for black ice
- listening for the snow plows while snuggled in the dark
- taking a guess at the amount of snow before opening the curtains
- finding the crispiest snow to crunch through
- using footprints to see what people are wearing (a lot of uggs)
